Spring has Sprung and Easter is Here By Russ Cobbe Easter was originally a pagan celebration known as Eastre. As Christianity expanded to the North and to more readily convert the pagans, it embraced their celebrations of Eastre with their own celebration of the resurrection of Christ. Prior to 325AD Easter had no specific day for the celebration. It was sometimes on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday. The spring equinox is the mid-point between Winter and Summer solstices which are the furthest and closest points of the approach of the earth to the Sun. The rules of the date are based on it happening on the first Sunday that occurs after the first full moon or after the vernal equinox. Easter must be celebrated between March 22nd and April 25th. The exchange of Eggs actually predates the Christian Easter celebrations and it is a symbol of rebirth. The Easter bunny was brought to America by the Germans in the 1800's.
